GetFamilyar is a youth-led project under the charity of ACDF which focuses on providing community cohesive; events, workshops and programs with emphasis on the performing and creative arts.
Established in 2008, GET FAMILYAR started off as weekly live event for up and coming talent in london and qucikly expanded to a youth provision program offering artistic development and mentoring schemes to schools and youth institutions, since then GetFamilyar has worked with young people aged 7 - 25 in communities throughout the UK facilitating workshops and projects with positive and world changing outcomes.
The name GetFamilyar meaning “The family getting together” was created by the show’s host and project leader Mikel Ameen (artist), which quickly became a household name amongst young people across London.
The Getfamilyar project is today branded as an effective youth development and empowerment tool by statutory and voluntary youth provisions, attracting upwards of two hundred young people wherever it is staged. Our delivery strategy and outcomes are consistent with the strategic agenda of all London boroughs and responds directly to local areas delivery plans for engaging young people, providing activities to mitigate their involvement in ant-isocial behaviour and crimes and reducing workless-ness. GetFamilyar’s integrated approach to youth empowerment through performing arts, combines artistic quality with social and educational content to enhance learning, personal development and self-attainment.
Our bespoke programs are designed for schools, colleges, youth centres, Pupil Referral Unit and any other institution that deals with young people. GetFamilyar is unique in the sense that it is run by professional young people for the benefit of young people first and foremost. GetFamilyar currently has a growing social network following of over 900 and approximately 300 registered members. Building on its success in engaging young people, and in keeping with its objective of enabling young people’s positive involvement in their communities, the GetFamilyar project now offers Artisitc, social and personal Development Programs nationally.
